From Winter to Spring - Kizuna (NYP & CPF Collabration)

After the loss of his wife, Kai went into depression. In his early retirement years, he found it difficult to engage with the outside world until he met a friendly neighbour who helped him to ease into the community
From Winter To Spring is an animated anthology series produced by Nanyang Polytechnic, in collaboration with CPF Board. The series explores the importance of mental resilience in retirement and is produced in support of World Mental Health Day. Go to https://www.cpf.gov.sg/studentlens2023 to watch the whole series

Research about Meaningful Retirement & Mental Resilience
Our team need to first understand our client CPF and how they can help those who are newly retired from the workforce. When it comes to retirement, some will feel that they have lost a purpose in their life and sometimes don't know what to do else now that they have left the workforce after years

Moodboard & Style Reference
We then made a mood board that relates to the keywords; retirement and mental resilience, as well as the colour moods for the overall animation. Throughout the story, we choose warm colours with small elements of cool purple tone for isolate parts when Kai is alone in his home in the introduction

Storyboarding Process

Finalized Storyboard
Most changes are during Kizuna's opening and ending, with better compositions and angles to help enhance our story and for the audience to better understand without the need for words or voices. We decided to remove the retirement party as the tai chi group of seniors can be shown as a sign of after-retirement for our main character Kai
